Jonathan Adler has opened a store at 33 North 3rd Street (at Market Street) in Center City Philadelphia.
The store, his 13th freestanding boutique, opened in mid-December 2010. At 3,800-square-feet, it is his second biggest in the country and joins a portfolio of stores in New York, Boston, Chicago, Miami, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The Philadelphia store contains two floors of "life-enhancing goodies," in Adler's words, that promote his "Happy Chic" aesthetic. Wares include bedding, candles, rugs, bath accessories, handcrafted-in-Soho pottery, furniture, wall art and a new line for juniors.
There are close to 90,000 residents in Center City, according to Margaret Hughes, Co-Chair of the PRMA and Deputy City Representative for Philadelphia, who classified the population as a mix of empty-nesters who have moved in from the suburbs and young, post-college professionals.
"Jonathan Adler will easily become a favorite design solution for both of these very different demographics," said Hughes.
"The store is a perfect fit for the Center City retail environment which has evolved over the past ten years," added Michelle Shannon, Co-Chair of The Philadelphia Retail Marketing Alliance (PRMA) and VP of Marketing for the Philadelphia Center City District. "Center City residents and retail customers are sophisticated, stylish and a little bit eclectic in their tastes."
"Philadelphia is very groovy," said Adler, "so all the groovy people will be my customers!"
